O Week: 24-28 February

O Week: 24-28 February

This week is the official start of the PGSA’s year with O Week 2020! As usual, we have events running every day in the week of 24-28 February, showcasing the variety of our events and endeavours as an association. All postgraduates (Honours, Masters or PhD) are very welcome at the below events, although the Information Evening is designed for new arrivals. The events are as follows:

Monday (24 February): Postgraduate Information Evening, Memorial Theatre (Kelburn), 3-5pm
Your one-stop shop for everything you need to know about postgraduate life at VUW. We'll have information and resources on hand about postgraduate life and what the PGSA can do for you, and be presenting a panel featuring current postgraduate students.
The information evening is followed by a drinks reception at Milk & Honey between 5 and 7pm. There will also be an opportunity to take a campus tour with an expert guide, to make sure you put the Orientation into Orientation Week!

Tuesday (25 February): Picnic, Tim Beaglehole Courtyard (Kelburn), 11am-2pm
Weather dependent: reserve day 27 February
We'll be taking over the courtyard outside the Hub for a fun few hours of food, games and generally chilling out with friends old and new. Vegetarian and vegan BBQ food will be served from 12 alongside other refreshments - so come along and hang out!

Wednesday (26 February): Thriving @ Uni, TTR205 (Kelburn), 11am-12pm
A panel session, where we'll be joined by guests from Student Finance, Careers & Employment, UniQ (Queer/Rainbow student representation), the Library, Student Advocacy, Student Health & Counselling, the Faculty of Graduate Research and Student Wellbeing. The panel will be discussing their roles within the University, the support they can offer postgraduates and any general advice. This is a great opportunity to put names to faces and get an overview of the support networks the University can offer.

Thursday (27 February): Postgrad Talks, RHMZ03 (Pipitea), 6-8pm
The first Postgrad Talks of 2020 will be in Pipitea, in a new evening slot. Come down to hear from a selection of postgraduates presenting their research to a supportive audience in a conference paper format. A free pizza dinner will also be served.

Friday (28 February): Breakfast Social @ Kelburn: Milk & Honey, 9-10:30am
Our regular Breakfast Social event, but with a twist: free food! Come along to fill your belly and have a good old chat at the end of a long week.
Register to attend here.
Breakfast Social @ Pipitea will be held on Friday 6 March.

It’s bound to be a brilliant week, and we’re looking forward to seeing old and new faces throughout the week. See you there!
