Three Minute Thesis is an event that celebrates innovative new research conducted by PhD students from around the world. Developed by The University of Queensland, 3MT cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports student’s capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non specialist audience.

Competitors had to explain their research using only a single static PowerPoint slide in just under 3 minutes, while avoiding jargon and making the significance and impact of their research clear to a general audience. Criteria included making the audience want to know more, and having good stage presence and communicating clearly and confidently.
