This month’s Movie Night features a new theme: Japanese animation — Studio Ghibli’s masterpiece Princess Mononoke.
Akihiro, a Japanese PhD student in Applied Linguistics, will introduce some of the key concepts explored in Princess Mononoke, including Environmentalism vs. Industrialisation, Animism, Shinto spirituality, and more. This will be an opportunity to compare these themes with Māori culture and other worldviews — so feel free to bring your insights for a deeper dive into the world of Japanese animation.
Free movie snacks included. All postgraduates welcome!
