The Postgraduate Students’ Association (PGSA) is seeking expressions of interest to join a newly established Board of Advisers.
The Board of Advisers will provide independent advice, governance support, and institutional insight to assist the PGSA Executive as it works to strengthen postgraduate representation, governance, and organisational sustainability at Te Herenga Waka — Victoria University of Wellington.
PGSA is the representative association for postgraduate students and works to:
advocate on postgraduate student issues
support representation across faculties and University committees
build postgraduate community and wellbeing
strengthen student voice and engagement
PGSA is currently focused on embedding clearer governance structures, standing committees, and long‑term sustainability.
Members of the Board of Advisers serve in an advisory capacity only.
The Board will:
provide strategic and governance advice
support continuity and institutional memory
offer independent perspectives on risk, process, and organisational development
advise, where appropriate, the PGSA Executive and standing committees
The Board of Advisers:
has no decision‑making authority
does not replace elected leadership
does not represent PGSA externally
We welcome expressions of interest from people with experience in areas such as:
governance or not‑for‑profit leadership
higher education and research environments
student advocacy or representation
strategy, organisational development, or policy
finance, risk, or compliance
Māori and Pasifika leadership
equity, accessibility, or international student support
Applications are welcome from:
postgraduate students
alumni
academic or professional staff (in a personal capacity)
members of the wider community with relevant expertise
Term: 2 years (renewable once)
Board size: 5–9 advisers
One meeting every 1–2 months
Occasional consultation between meetings
Meetings may be held online or in person.
