Last month, we explored animism and Shinto spirituality through the lens of Princess Mononoke. Spirited Away, created after Princess Mononoke, reflects these concepts through a rich blend of Japanese folklore and kamikakushi (the Japanese term for “spirited away”). Although it’s winter here in New Zealand, the film takes us on a magical summer adventure with Chihiro, set in the Japanese summer months of July and August. Come along and experience a nostalgic summer wonderland.
